Deposit is used to transfer an amount from the Cash column to the Bank column.
As you take payments from your clients, the amount of each payment is added to the Cash column which increases in value in line with the physical value of the kitty. When the amount in the kitty reaches a high enough value you bank the money. The Deposit function does exactly the same, banks the money.

To enter a deposit, select Ledger from the main menu. Select Do the Banking from the drop down menu. Select Deposit from the submenu. The New Deposit dialogue is presented:

The Date field holds the current date. This is the date G-E will use for the deposit. Change the date if required.
Enter the amount you are depositing into the bank in the Amount field.
Enter notes about the deposit if needed. The Notes field is not limited to the length shown. Keep typing at the end of the field if needed to accommodate the notes. Notes are not normally required for a simple deposit.
Click Ok or press Enter to execute the transfer.

What Just Happened?
The Ledger Cash column was decreased by the amount in the Amount field. The entry in the Cash column shows the transfer as "To Bank".
The Ledger Bank column was increased by the amount in the Amount field. The entry in the Bank column shows the transfer as "From Cash".
