To perform a system backup, select Utilities from the Main Menu. Select Backup from the drop down menu. Alternatively, use the Ctrl+B hotkey combination from the Main Menu. G-E checks your system and presents the Select Backup Drive dialogue showing the drives on your computer. Select the drive you wish the backup file to be written to. Ensure a disk is inserted in the drive. Click Ok or press Enter to commence the backup. Backup is automated from here.

For more information about backups, refer to Backup Overview.

Be aware, the "fixed disks" which are listed on your system are, in most cases, the hard drives. (Some flash drives report to Windows as "Fixed Disks"). Backing up to fixed disks does not protect your data as well as removable disks. If your hard drive crashes, or your computer is stolen or destroyed, your data will be lost. Hard drive backups are very fast and offer reasonable protection against power cuts and general system crashes, (The blue screen of death!)
Regular backups to the hard drive are a good idea during the day. Ensure you back up to a removeable drive at the end of the day and remove the disk from the premises.

Note:
G-E will report when the backup is completed. At this stage of the backup, G-E has prepared the backup file, compressed it and handed the file to Windows to be written to the disk. This does not mean the disk drive has completed writing the information.
As with all drives, do not eject the disk until the drive light is extinguished as this will be detrimental to the backup file.
